Personality
Shade is the type of silent crazy sort of person. He does not speak much to someone other than Silver or his other trusted Shadow members. However, when he does, such as when he is required to deliver a speech, he usually speaks well and can find the right words to say. He thinks carefully about what he says and will not say something if he isn’t sure if it would come out wrong or be taken in a wrong way. Even with his friends, or those he calls friends at least if they really are truly friends for they are more of followers than friends, he is very careful about what he says. Shade also tends to be extremely secretive, and does not tell everything to anyone, even the one he trusts most of all, Silver. However, he has told Silver of his dependence on the oasis, one of his best guarded secrets, having told no one else.
Shade does not trust easy either. He is very slow to trust and even if his first impressions say they are trustworthy he will not trust them, almost the opposite of the dear Professor Maple, who does not trust him anymore due him Shade using and betraying Maple several times over. Shade also does not really care for other’s feelings, except for his most loyal followers that are in his inner circle, the captains, basically. And even than if their emotions go against what he believes or needs he will not care of those feelings. Despite all of this not seeming to care about others and distrustful nature of his, he tends to have a terrible temper. He is extremely quick to rise, but it takes a good while to cool him down. One offensive comment and he probably won’t forgive the offender for days. Sure, he knows it is petty and tells himself he shouldn’t care, but he can’t help but feel angry.
Much like Professor Maple, a man he does respect highly, mind you, despite him betraying his trust several times, Shade is highly intelligent. Maple only discovered his betrayal because Shade had told him of the betrayal, his conscious having got the best of him, since he did care for Maple and thought he should know. Shade has mastered the art of hiding and if he doesn’t want to be found by someone, he won’t be found. However, that can also lead to another one of Shade’s tragic flaws. He has a lot of pride and if someone tries to stop him from doing his plans, he will not hide from them, which may later lead to his downfall, if he falls at all. Shade will take any challenge that he is given, even if he knows he will fail. However, even if he loses the challenge he may act in an unfair way, though later his little voice in his head will tell him that it wasn’t right. In the heat of things, morality is thrown out of the window with Shade.

History
Shade lived a very normal life for about 20 years of his life, until he was diagnosed with a terminal illness. During the time after that, he fell in love with a woman named Mira. After admiring her from afar for a few years, Shade began looking frantically for ways to extend his life, eventually finding the oasis in the south eastern part of the Kochi Region, on accident finding out that it could revive him. It had been a myth of the lake that could heal any injury, but when he stepped into the oasis it didn’t work. He tried drinking it, but it didn’t work. However, due to his condition he fell over into the water from exhaustion, and upon being fully submerged, he breathed in the water, expecting it to hurt like he was drowning, but instead it made his entire body feel better and gave him more strength. Having then regained all of his strength, he went back and finally asked Mira out on a date. The two clicked quickly and about a year, they were engaged. However, as the one year mark came, Shade began rapidly aging, and it worried them both. Shade admitted what he had done, and the two decided they would give the oasis a try again. It worked just like before and the couple could breathe. The two got married, and discovered that every year on the same day he would begin to rapidly age again and they would have to heal him again.
Soon, they had a young girl. She was different from everyone else and aged slowly. They feared that he had perhaps infected her with his curse, but they found that she did not when she did not rapidly age suddenly. By the time she looked about 5 years old, she was at least 25 years old. However, Mira died one day (Mint was about 57 years old or so, though only 11 to 12 in appearance by her looks and acts) when their house was robbed by an armed robber and she got in the way. Shade tried to get her to the oasis, but she was already dead before he could even pick her up. Not knowing of the resurrecting powers of the oasis, he buried her. During the robbery, Mint was also mortally injured, and Shade believed her dead as well. However, as it turns out, Mint survived and before her burial snuck from her coffin, only half-lucid and left. Shade did not know that a Celebi would find her while it was one a trip around the world and accidently bring her to the future as it was caring for her.
Shade would then go into the shadows and stay away from people grieving, nearly killing himself by not drinking from the oasis, though eventually, his fear of death brought him to the oasis every year. And then he heard of the story of the legendary pokemon, the one the hero used to save the Kochi Region along with his other pokemon, and began to notice the poison in the pokemon world, not the pokemon, but the people. The people were corrupt and would use and abuse their pokemon, sometimes without even realizing, the whole capturing the creatures against their will and forcing them to befried them. Shade released all of his pokemon at this point, but his Ninetails was the only one that stayed with him, despite him trying to let the pokemon go. Eventually, Shade decided that with his eternal youth he would change the world. He began gathering support for his cause, talking of punishing those who use pokemon against their wills, or those who use the pokemon for their own advancement or corrupts pokemon. He created Team Shadow with the goal of creating a world where using pokemon and catching them in pokeballs disappears and to do that he would have to rule the world, for the greater good. Really, it started out with complete good intentions and way to do it, but over time they twisted and morphed into what it is today. The team’s goal included him becoming the ruler of the world, and while his motives seem to counter his purpose, he doesn’t see it that way at all, all of his pokemon not in pokeballs, though the team members may keep their pokemon in their little prisons if the pokemon is alright with it.
The whole deal with Maple included Shade using him to get information on the legendary pokemon, using him to get to new pokemon trainers, and trying to recruit him to Team Shadow. He wanted information for his own nefarious purposes while Maple thought it was just his inquisitive mind thirsting for knowledge, as Shade told him, why would he think otherwise? Except the fact that Shade told him of his true purpose afterwards, though he didn’t apologize, and that lost Maple’s trust.
